Álvaro Palacios ist heute nach seinem großen Erfolg mit L'Ermita einer der großen Weinmacher Spaniens. Zusammen mit Rene Barbier und Ricardo Perez war Álvaro Palacios einer der Männer der ersten Stunde im heutigen Anbaugebiet D.O.Ca. Priorato. Nach dem Studium der Önologie in Frankreich arbeitete er bei Château Pétrus in Bordeaux und Stag's Leap im kalifornischen Napa Valley.
Wine Enthusiast - Alvaro Palacios - Finca Dofi (Priorat) 2006 - 95 points - $90 (Jg. 2006) Alvaro Palacios, the prince of Gratallops, always manages to kock the ball out of park with his Finca Dofi, a single vineyard blend of garnacha beefed up by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a touch of Syrah. Hailing from a 22- acre vineyard planted when Palacios first arrived in the Priorat some 20 years ago, Dofi is, year after year, a picture of power and purity combined with elegance. It’s also a terrior wine of the first order, and while the unirrigated Dofi vineyard may not be as tough to tend as Palacio’s nearby L’Ermita vineyard. It has the requisite schisty soils and wine-herb surroundings that impart a minerally, sauvage subcontext to the wine’s plum, berry and licorice essence. “I just love Garnacha,” palacios told me recently while the two of us stood on one of Dofi’s terraces. “It’s capricious, brave and valiant. No matter how dry; no matter how hot it might get. If the soil is poor and the drainage good, the vies will find the water and nutrients they need to make this type of wine.”
