Valbuena, der Zweitwein des Vega Sicilia Unico und wurde benannt nach dem Ort Valbuena de Duero, in dem der Hersteller Vega Sicilia beheimatet ist. Nach dem hochkonzentrierten Valbuena 2001, der wohl noch einige Jahre bis zur Trinkreife benötigt und dem vergleichsweise unkomplizierten Valbuena 2002, der sich von Anbeginn bereits recht gut trinken ließ, sind die Valbuena ab Jahrgang 2003 allesamt Weine, die nach dem release erstmal ein paar Jahre Kellerreife benötigen, bevor sie zeigen, was sie können. Zu jung geöffnet, helfen erfahrungsgemäß auch 2-3 Tage warten nichts, wenn dat Dinge nich will, wills nich ! Also nicht vor 2014 öffnen, am besten später.

On the palate it reveals its elegant personality, round texture, savory flavors, and lengthy, pure finish. It merits 4-6 years of cellaring to fully unwind and will offer prime drinking from 2014 to 2030.
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar - Sep/Oct 10 - Josh Raynolds - Vega Sicilia Valbuena 2005 - 93 (+?) points ($175) Bright ruby. Complex bouquet melds dried cherry, licorice, potpourri and minerals, plus a subtle smoky undertone. Very sweet and creamy in texture, offering intense red fruit flavors that gain power and spiciness with aeration. Picks up notes of cassis and cherry pit on the back end and finishes with impressive breadth and lingering sweetness. This is still a baby. By the way, the 1998 has years ahead of it but is showing a wild, pungent bouquet of dried herbs and flowers and excellent, mineral-driven red fruit right now.
