Galia ist das persönliche Projekt der französischen Önologen Jerome Bougnaud, der für Pingus, Quinta Sardonia and El Regajal arbeitet, sowie Daniel Garcia Pita, des Inhabers von El Regajal. Die Trauben für den Galia kommen von vier unterschiedlichen Weinbergen, teilweise auch außerhalb des D.O. Gebiets der Ribera del Duero, weshalb der Galia ohne Klassifikation verkauft wird.

Hontangas, Burgos. Höhe: 911 m. 2 Parzellen mit insges. 0,613 ha. Garnacha, freistehend gepflanzt im Jahre 1920. Alter der Rebstöcke: 95 Jahre
Cuevas de Provanco, Segovia. Höhe 920 m. Parzelle von 0,19 ha. Tinto Fino 1920 freistehend gepflanzt. Alter der Rebstöcke: 95 Jahre.
Trigueros del Valle, Valladolid. Höhe: 795 m. Parzelle von 0,72 ha. Tinto Fino 1920 freistehend gepflanzt. Alter der Rebstöcke: 85 Jahre.
Die Weinbauern, die die Weinberge bewirtschaften sind allesamt Freunde oder Bekannte des umtriebigen Daniel Garcia-Pita, der auch zu den Gründern von Quinta Sardonia gehörte.

20 % des Tempranillo wurde mit den Stengeln vergoren, die Garnacha 100 %.
Ausbau über 19 Monate in französischen Darnajou Barriques, 40 % bereits einmal belegt, 60 % zweimal belegt. Abgefüllt am 23. Juni 2014
Tiefes Kirschrot mit violettem Saum. Die Nase ist frisch und komplex. Intensive Aromen von roten, reifen Früchten und Anklänge von Zeder und Zimt. Der Mund wird eingehüllt von großartiger, natürlicher Säure und eleganter, öliger Textur.

The 2012 Galia was one week from bottling when I tasted it, but it was already assembled and just ready for the mechanical operation. It’s an unusual blend of old-vine Tempranillo and Garnacha from very old vineyards in different villages around the Duero River. It has an exuberant nose with aromas of violets, blueberries, Morello cherries and no traces of oak whatsoever, still very primary and young. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with a great sense of harmony and really polished and soft tannins, with good acidity and a bright, shiny, lively personality. It was bottled un-fined and unfiltered, as the wine settled itself in barrel. This is a superb red that for the quality it delivers, is a superb value. Well done! It’s so young that it’s a shame to drink it now. Drink 2015-2021.

I tasted the 2012 Galia last year just before bottling, so I took the opportunity to taste the finished wine with one year in bottle. The short story is that all the wine promised then made it into the bottle and now the wine is an explosion of aromas. The showy violets and blueberries are all here, augmented by blood orange peel, exotic spices and mineral freshness. One year in bottle has made it good, and although still young and quite primary, it feels even better integrated and evolving at a glacial pace. As originally planned, it was finally bottled unfined and unfiltered, as the wine settled itself in barrel and there was no need for anything else. This is a most impressive, elegant, aromatic, mineral and balanced wine. What a steal! 5,500 bottles were filled at the end of June 2014.
