Wine Advocate #183 - Jun 2009 - Jay S Miller - 96/100 - La Nieta 2006 - Drink: 2016 - 2030 $150 (159)
The 2006 La Nieta (the granddaughter) is 100% Tempranillo from Finca La Nieta, planted in 1975. Malolactic fermentation was in new French barriques followed by 18 months in new French oak. Purple in color, it delivers a fragrant, alluring bouquet of roasted herbs, graphite, damp earth, incense, blueberry, and blackberry. Opulent, dense, and layered, this promising wine has tons of fruit, soft tannin, and superb length. It will benefit from 6-8 years of cellaring and offer prime drinking from 2016 to 2030.
