The 2013 La Vizcaína Las Gundiñas (produced in 2011 as La Galbana and released with the new name in 2012) seems to have behaved brilliantly in this cold vintage. It usually produces fruit-driven wines, but here they seem more profound and complex, mixing aromatic herbs, wild berries and earthy characteristics. I find this very Burgundian. The palate is seamless, with a silky texture, very fine tannins and great acidity. It feels really balanced.

(aged for a year in a combination of new and used French oak barriques): Saturated ruby. Highly perfumed aromas of blueberry, cassis, smoky minerals and dark chocolate, with a peppery nuance adding urgency. Plush and sweet but also nicely focused on the palate, conveying a velvety aspect to its black and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors. Finishes with excellent thrust and mineral lift, harmonious tannins and lingering floral and spice notes. These vines date back to 1927.
