The Wine Advocate - Luis Gutiérrez - Feb 12 2026 - 2023 Atalaya Alaya Tierra - 93/100 - 2028 -2034 - $39
The dark and concentrated 2023 Alaya Tierra was produced with Garnacha Tintorera grapes from 50+-year-old vines at 1,000 meters above sea level. It fermented in open-top 5,000-liter stainless steel vats and matured in brand-new French barriques for 15 months. This is heady and ripe, with notes of dark fruit and an iron twist, surprisingly not too oaky. It's powerful at 15% alcohol and has a pH of 3.84 and 6.1 grams of acidity. It's juicy and chewy, with a dry finish and abundant but fine tannins and is XXL but in balance. 16,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2025.
