Vinous - Jan 2016 - Josh Raynolds - 2013 La Poulosa - 92/100 - 2019 - 2024 - $54.00 (made from vines planted in 1927): Opaque ruby. Vibrant, mineral-accented red and dark berry aromas are complemented by suggestions of cola and potpourri. Silky and open-knit, conveying impressive energy and appealing sweetness to its raspberry, cherry compote and floral pastille flavors. Fresh, concentrated and incisive wine with silky tannins that come on slowly to frame the wine's vibrant red fruit.

The 2013 La Vizcaína La Poulosa is usually the warmest, ripest and exuberant of the Vizcaína wines. However, in a cool vintage like 2013, the nature of the vineyard seems to compensate the difficulties in ripening; it shows some sweet red fruit and less ripe notes, quite round and fleshy but without excess. Some 4,000 bottles produced.
