Tim Atkin - Ribera del Duero 2023 - Hacienda Monasterio Reserva 2019 - 96/100 - 2025-2035 - (15%)
Reflecting the changes that started in 2016, with earlier picking and slightly higher yields to preserve freshness, the 2019 Reserva is an assemblage of Tinto Fino and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Sourced from an east-facing, eight-hectare block on white limestone soils, this is fresh, focused and finely balanced, with violet and coffee bean aromas, a palate of damson and blackberry, layered tannins and a tangy, mineral-etched finish. 2025-35

The Wine Advocate - Luis Gutierrez -13 Jun 2024 - 2019 Hacienda Monasterio Reserva - 95/100 - 2024-2040 - $75
The 2019 Reserva was produced with a blend of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, a selection of plots, mostly from the zone of El Picón below the winery and the Cabernet from the gravel and sandy soils. The idea for the future is to vinify only one wine from the property and sell it with different élevage (like it was in the 90s!). 2019 was a very warm year with high ripeness, and the wine reflects it with 15% alcohol and a pH of 3.72 (and 5.3 grams of acidity). A rounder and more voluptuous year offset by the more calcareous soils, it's riper but has a serious and somewhat austere (call it mineral) palate. 40,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2021.
