The Wine Advocate # 246 - 30th Dec 2019 - Luis Gutiérrez - 2017 Aalto - 94/100 - 2020-2025 - $55
The 2017 Aalto was a surprise for the vintage. They had to select the grapes from their own vineyards, and they produced less wine. It feels a little lighter and fresher, more approachable at this point in time. The oak also seems to be more integrated. It's a very drinkable Aalto in its style. They only used some 20% new oak and possibly did a softer vinification. It's approachable now, but it should also develop nicely in bottle, as the year had more acidity. 220,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2019.

Tim Atkin - Aalto 2017 - D.O. Ribera del Duero - 94/100
"A blend of all of Ribera" is how winemaker Antonio Moral describes this cuvée from nine different villages, combining Aalto's own vineyards and purchased grapes. Subtle, floral and intense, it’s a seamless if still youthful red with 50% new French and American wood, notes of dried herbs and vanilla, bramble and raspberry fruit and polished tannins. 2022-30
