Pazo de Senorans 2005

Pazo de Señorans ist ein Familienbetrieb, der 1989 im spanischen Weißweinparadies D.O. Rías Baixas gegründet wurde. Die Weißweine des Herstellers werden zu 100 % aus der im Nordosten Spaniens heimischen Albariñotraube hergestellt.   

Die Bodega befindet sich in abgelegen in Vilanoviña, mit 400.000 Flaschen gehört der Hersteller zu den größten in der kleinteiligen D.O. Rías Baixas. Doch die relative Größe ist der Qualität nicht abträglich, wie man sich Jahr für Jahr überzeugen kann. Der Wein gehört seit Jahren zu den besten Weißweinen Spaniens.  

Der Wein schmeckt nach grünem Apfel, Anklängen von Zitrusfrüchten mit schöner Säure, frische Blumen und leckeren tropischen Früchten.

A small portion of the wine went through malolactic fermentation, so it offers a lovely roundness. Features floral aromas backed by pure tangerine and nectarine flavors. Registers more fruity and smooth than minerally, with a perfect finish.

From one of my favorite Albarino producers, the 2004 may be the finest Albarino Pazo de Senorans has yet made. Low yielding (25-30 hectoliters per hectare) old vines planted in the northern sub-zone of the Salnes appellation have produced a wine with impressive texture (no doubt the result of the stirring of the lees), exotic peach, apricot, pineapple, and honeysuckle characteristics, superb ripeness and richness, good acidity, and great length as well as minerality. This is a stunning non-oaked dry white to enjoy over the next 1-2 years. In the finest vintages, this estate fashions tiny quantities of an Albarino aged sur-lie for two years.

Broad and intensely flavored, with impressive concentration and focus to the peach flavor. Finishes with excellent length. This saw no wood. 91 points

Always a candidate for Albarino of the year, the 2005 Pazo de Senorans does not disappoint. The wine is produced from low yielding vines on slate and gravel and is tank fermented and aged on its fine lees with battonage. Light gold-colored, it offers up a refined nose of mineral, petrol, and pit fruits reminiscent of a top-flight Alsace Riesling. Bone dry and crisp, the wine offers intense flavors with superb balance and length. Drink this classy effort over the next 12-18 months with a variety of seafoods.
