Der Hacienda Monasterio Reserva 2010 wird zu 80 % aus der in der Ribera del Duero vorherrschenden Rebsorte Tinta del País (Tempranillo), sowie 20 % Cabernet Sauvignon gekeltert und gehört zu den stilistisch prägnantesten Weinen des Weinanbaugebietes D.O. Ribera del Duero. Die Bodega stellt insgesamt zwischen 200.000 und 300.000 Flaschen pro Jahr her.
Die Reserva 2010 wurde über 20 Monate in neuer, französischer Allier-Eiche (60 % neue Fässer, 40 % 2 Jahre alt)) ausgebaut. Nach einer zusätzlichen Lagerzeit in der Flasche von einem Jahr, kommt die Reserva auf den Markt.
Oberster Weinmacher bei Hacienda Monasterio ist der geniale Däne Peter Sissek, der seinen berühmten "bordelaiser Stil" in der Ribera del Duero eingeführt hat und mit dem Erstlingsjahrgang seines Pingus 1995 weltweit bekannt wurde.
Weniger bekannt ist, dass Sissek ein glühender Verfechter des biodynamischen Weinbaus ist und bei Monasterio die Ökologie von Anfang an eine der wichtigsten Leitlinien des Handelns war. Die architektonisch interessante Finca liegt an der Landstraße von Pesquera del Duero nach Valbuena del Duero (Valladolid) hoch am Berg und ist gekonnt in die Umgebung eingepasst.

(80% tempranillo and 20% cabernet sauvignon; aged for 20 months in new and older French oak): Deep ruby. Potent cherry, blueberry and Indian spices on the deeply perfumed nose, with hints of violet and dark chocolate building in the glass. Large-scaled and mouthfilling, but with striking vivacity to its fleshy dark berry and floral pastille flavors. Firm and chewy on the wonderfully persistent finish, with supple tannins adding support and shape.

The 2010 Reserva contains 20% Cabernet Sauvignon from selected plots from their slope vineyards planted 25 years ago on chalk-rich soils that fermented with indigenous yeasts. 2010 was a near-perfect growing season, producing wines that are both powerful and fresh and that should have a long life in bottle. The nose is fragrant and elegant, mixing notes of red and black fruit with a sense of extreme harmony. Very showy. As much as it’s elegant it also feels powerful and serious, quite Ribera, with good typicity. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with polished tannins, and is supple and tasty and with great acidity and length. A balanced, elegant vintage, not showy or voluptuous, but more serious and developing complexity. 14,330 bottles were produced. Sisseck likes to make a comparison between 1995 and 1996 and 2009 and 2010, 2010 being similar to 1996. I see a bright future for this 2010. A fine and elegant Ribera. Bravo! At this quality level this represents very good value. Drink 2014-2022.

This big red offers both polish and density, with muscular, well-integrated tannins supporting the rich texture. The flavors are more harmonious than expressive, with plum, licorice, tar, mineral and coffee notes. Impressive structure. Best from 2018 through 2030. –TM
