Les Terrasses 2005

Der Les Terrasses 2005 ist der aktuelle Jahrgang des seit mittlerweile knapp 15 Jahren zuverlässigen Basisweins des kongenialen Alvaro Palacios, auch im großen Jahrgang 2005 mehr denn je ein qualitativ hochwertiger, aber noch erschwinglicher Priorato.     

Alvaro Palacios ist einer der Urväter des Priorats und hat zusammen mit Rene Barbier (Clos Mogador) und José Luis Perez (Clos Martinet und Cims de Porrera) die Region wieder urbar gemacht und in der Folge zu weltweitem Ruhm geführt.

A great introduction to Palacios' style, is the 2003 Les Terrasses, a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Carignan, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. A beautiful wine aged 12 months in primarily French, and some American oak, it is a supple-textured, sexy, seductive, deep ruby/purple-tinged offering exhibiting ripe notes of black cherries, currants, licorice, and minerals. Opulent, round, juicy, and alluring, it will drink well for 4-6 years.

Intense and colorful; one of the most flavorful and sizable versions of Terrasses on record. Flavors of boysenberry, blackberry and plum sizzle, while the layered palate spreads out nicely upon airing. Everything about this Cariñena-dominated wine is solid and precise. 2004 was a superb vintage in Priorat and the three entries from Alvaro Palacios are stunning. If I were a young wine enthusiast with limited discretionary income, I would surely buy a case of the 2004 Les Terrasses. It is a blend of 60% Carignan, 30% Grenache, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for one year in a combination of used French and American oak. It is opaque purple in color with a knockout nose of kirsch, blueberry, licorice and minerals. On the palate there are layers of sweet, ripe black fruits, a supple texture, and light, soft tannins to support several more years of bottle aging. This juicy effort will drink well for 6-8 years thereafter.
