Der Viña Arana Reserva 2005 ist ein klassischer Rioja aus dem mit excelente (hervorragend) bewerteten Traumjahrgang 2005. Der Wein hat drei Jahre in amerikanischen Barriques verbracht und wurde im November 2009 auf die Flasche gefüllt. Ein Wein mit dem typischen Kirschrot und dem ebenso typischen ziegelroten Rand, klar und brilliant, einem intensiven Bouquet von Schokolade und Zimt mit Anklängen von Leder. Weiche Tannine, die mit der ausgeprägten feinen Säure harmonieren. Mittlerer Körper, schöne Fruchtkonzentration, zauberhafte Eleganz, der Wein bewahrt sich auch nach Jahren seine Frische, Süße und die komplexe Aromatik am Gaumen.
Robert Parker hat vor einiger Zeit im Wine Advocate einen wesentlichen Aspekt der Weine von La Rioja Alta kurz und knapp charakterisiert: "La Rioja Alta continues to be one of the benchmarks for traditionally produced Rioja. What the wines may lack in power, they make up for in finesse and complexity."

Ausbau:
Über 36 Monate in amerikanischen Fässern, die im Schnitt dreieinhalb Jahre alt sind. Während der Reifezeit wird sechsmal traditionell abgestochen (von Barrique zu Barrique). Die Abfüllung fand im November 2009 statt. Der Wein hat also bereits fast vier Jahre Flaschenreife.

The 2006 Viña Arana Reserva is a blend of Tempranillo with 5% Mazuelo (aka Cariñena) fermented with natural yeasts and had a slow malolactic fermentation of 56 days after which the wine was put in barrel in July 2007 where they matured for three years being racked every six months before they were bottled in December 2010. It feels like a ripe red, with notes of forest floor, dark cherries, spices and hints of leather, hung game, smoke and toasted notes. The palate is lush, and polished, with a velvety texture and moderate acidity. It is ready to be enjoyed now and able to stand the test of time.
